Mr. Bain is an accomplished Advanced Practice Nurse, in several clinical specialties, and a certified Advanced Nursing Executive with more than three decades of experience in clinical practice, administration, education, and research, in Canada the United States and the United Kingdom. His practice environments include work in the private sector, military, not-for-profit sector, and government funded services. His clinical experience is largely with critically ill neonates, children and adults.
He has held the following academic appointments: Lecturer and Clinical Instructor, Department of Family and Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto (1983-1993); Clinical Instructor, Instructor & Tutor, Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto (1992-1998); Senior Tutor, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University (1996-2000); Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, York University (1999-2007); Assistant Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing, Rochester University, Rochester, NY (2008-2012). He taught professional ethics and bioethics in the undergraduate, Collaborative Nursing Program, School of Nursing, York University, 1999-2005 and Bioethics in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program, School of Nursing, Rochester University (2008-2012). He is a PhD candidate in a Nursing Program that has a strong bioethics component.
Some of the professional positions he has held are as follows: Executive Director, York Community Services; President, Genesis Family Centred Health Services Inc.; Director, Perinatal Services, Rochester, General Hospital; Director, Ambulatory Services, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo; Nurse Manager, Emergency Department, Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo; Clinical Nurse Specialist, Trauma, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto; Clinical Nurse Specialist, Neonatal Intensive Care, Women’s College Hospital, Toronto. He is an Emergency Nurse Practitioner, with concurrent credentials in Neonatology, and Pediatrics. Mr. Bain is credentialed to practice in several US States, as well as several Canadian provinces and all three Canadian Territories.
Presently, David works as a consultant in private practice and leads a private sector company that delivers aeromedical services and occupational health services in a variety of environments.
Mr. Bain is credentialed as a Faith Community Nurse (Parish Nurse in New York State).
Further, he is a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and the President of the Serra Club of Toronto West.
